Bible Story 3
Title: Satan’s Beginning
Bible Passage: Isaiah chapter 14 verse 12 – verse 15 / Ezekiel chapter 28 verse 12 – verse 17
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.Ezekiel chapter 28 verse 17
The earth was filled with joy, with the beautiful Garden of Eden, and the first couple having been created there. The world God had created was perfect in every way.
That is when something happened in heaven. Heaven was where the multitude of angels God created dwelt. One of them, the most beautiful of all angels, was called Lucifer. Lucifer became proud because of his beauty. In his heart, he started to have a strong desire to become like God. That desire continued to swell within him, becoming ambition, and ultimately hostility towards God. That is when God cast Lucifer out of heaven.
When Lucifer was cast out of heaven, he became Satan, and took many other angels with him. They then went to that garden, Eden, where Adam and Eve were living.
Satan knew that, in the end, he would be sent into hell. He decided if he could not change his own fate, then he would try and take as many other people as he could with him there. Satan set his aim on Adam and Eve, to gather them as “companions” who would suffer eternally with him in hell as punishment of their sins. He knew if he could get Adam and Eve to sin, then all who would be born from them would also end up in hell with him.
Not only that, but Satan decided to break the close friendship man had with God. As one who had enjoyed a close relation with God before being cast out of heaven, Satan was eaten in raging envy towards man.
Adam and Eve did not know that dark clouds had closed into their happy Garden of Eden.
Point: The first sin in this world was pride!
Satan, which means “enemy”, is another name for the Devil. The Devil and demons are not mere ideas, but real spiritual beings. (Reference: “The Bible Theology Dictionary” 聖書神学辞典 p. 139, by Word of Life Press Ministries.) Satan was the most beautiful angel, but was cast out of heaven because of the sin of pride. That was the world’s first sin. Satan creates and controls all dark forces, using any and all strategies to make man sin, and disturb the relationship he has with God. It has been determined that Satan and all demons will receive eternal judgement in a place prepared for them called hell. Whether man chooses to join the family of Satan, or the family of God, is left for him to decide with his own free will.
By Grace: The second conductor called Satan
I love to listen to orchestra music. What I love most about orchestras is how they “cooperate” to create beautiful “harmony”. The music becomes a beautiful, harmonious, unified piece of art when all instruments focus on the conductor’s baton and follow its movement.
If someone were to ignore the conductor and play as they please, then the beautiful harmony is broken, and the entire piece of music is corrupted. Or, for example, if all of a sudden a french horn player stood up in the middle of the song, put down his instrument exclaiming “I want to be like the conductor, too!” and started waving another baton next to the conductor, then the musicians would get confused, the audience would be surprised and the conductor would cast him out from the orchestra. Beautiful harmony can only be created when there is one conductor. Beautiful harmony requires “cooperation”, not “conflict”.
The same can be said about the world God created. God created this world similar to a beautiful piece of harmonized music. A world were each would cooperate with one another and follow God. There was no conflict there.
But when Lucifer stood up and threw away his instrument, suddenly picking up his baton, then the cooperation in the world hid itself, conflict suddenly appeared, and the beautiful harmony was lost. God cast Lucifer out from His orchestra to protect heaven.
Having been cast out of God’s heavenly orchestra, Satan gripped his baton and came down to earth. Just as an orchestra with two conductors cannot create beautiful music, so we see constant outbursts of fierce conflict all over this world – in the Middle East, in our workplaces and schools, in our homes, and in our hearts.
We continue to play the music of our lives while being shaken up by conflict and confusion, caused by Satan – that second conductor. If we are to regain beautiful harmony in our hearts, then we must make God our conductor. And we must keep our eyes on His baton.
I desire to perfect my life in harmony and beauty, focusing on the Bible, the baton of my heart, and following His Word…!
Application: I will tune my heart to the Bible, so as not to be shaken up by Satan.
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.Psalm 119 verse 133
